Sauna top tips

Sauna tips

  • Stay hydrated – due to sweating in the sauna, it is very important that you drink plenty during and after your sauna.
  • Don’t worry about anything. People who come to the Hot Horse Sauna sessions say how inclusive and welcoming they are.
  • Think about where you sit in the sauna. You will notice the difference straight away if you are only used to going in gym saunas with electric heating systems. The Hot Horse Sauna is heated by a traditional wood-fired stove and runs at between 70 and 90 degrees Celsius. Even though this is hotter than most gym saunas, the heat is less oppressive. We have benches at 2 heights so that you can ‘control’ the heat.
  • If you are new to sauna, you may want to start on the lower bench before moving to the higher bench. Your sauna host will add wood during your sauna session to maintain the heat.
  • Wear the wool felt sauna hats we provide – or feel free to bring your own! They will allow you to stay in for longer by keeping your head a little cooler.
  • Breathe deeply. There is plenty of fresh air in our mobile sauna. It is well ventilated for the traditional Finish style – colder, fresher air comes in by your feet and circulates to allow you to breathe comfortably throughout your session.
  • Remember to ask if you have any questions. Your sauna host will be there to guide you before, during and after your session.
