Your first sauna session
Arrive at the sauna 5-10 minutes early to meet your sauna host. You can use one of our changing pods to get changed – most people wear their swimwear in the sauna.
Bring a towel with you to sit on inside the sauna. Flip-flops or sliders are useful for walking around between the sauna and the cold plunge. Remember to fill up and bring your water bottle with you – you will want to keep hydrated during your session.
Talk to your sauna host if you have any questions. They will be able offer guidance and advice, so you have the most amazing sauna experience possible.
What happens in the sauna?
Sauna sessions aren’t just about getting hot! Your sauna session should be series of heating and cooling cycles. If you are new to sauna, you may want to limit your first heating to 5-10 minutes. Your next heating cycle could be longer – perhaps up to 15 minutes. Follow your body and just do what is comfortable.
Cooling down can be done in a number of ways. You might step out of the sauna and have a break and/or you could step under our cold water shower – it is a lovely way to cool off if you don’t want to get straight in to the cold plunge. The cold plunge is, however the gold star in contrast therapy. Control your breathing in long breaths and let your body relax for a minute or two.
You will be surprised at how quickly you get used to the feeling – and at how quickly you warm up as soon as you step back into the sauna.
Our sauna sessions are timed so that you will be able to go through 3 or 4 heating and cooling cycles. Always listen to your body and do what you feel is right for you. There are no competitions in the Hot Horse Sauna sessions. Relax, enjoy and benefit from the sauna session in your way.
